Not every dessert has to be sweet. Referred to as "Georgia Ice Cream," Nora Mill's white grit recipe is known around the South for their delicious flavor. @noramillgranary is a grist mill that was established way back in 1876 and is still turning their original stones today, and it's all powered by the beautiful Chattahoochee River. They use massive 1,500-pound burr stones to grind wheat and corn down into products such as flour, pancake and bread mixes, cornmeal, and of course the famous grits.

In addition to the grist mill, you'll also find a collection of assorted goods in the general store. Items such as homemade jams and jellies, candy, kitchenware and more. The Nora Mill Granary is a North Georgia staple if I've ever seen one and something we absolutely recommend to anyone in the area. We encourage you to hop over to their website and read about the family history and how the mill came to be, or better yet, stop in the next time you're passing through Helen. Have you tried out @mythandlegend.coffee in Clarkesville? They have an awesome little spot on the corner of Old 441, and we always love dropping in to try out their new seasonal flavors; the Iced Longfellow is our current favorite! Their biscuits have also saved the day a couple of times for us when we get out of the house without breakfast. We're usually just grabbing something on our way through, but they do have an awesome porch and some great cozy spaces inside if you're looking to hang out for a while.
