We love helping y'all get set up for a casual day We love helping y'all get set up for a casual day hike or hanging out on the river with friends, but if you're looking for a more in-depth outfitter with tons of experience and knowledgeable staff, we highly recommend you check out @trailful over in Hiawassee. The owners, Rob and Eric, are behind the incredible @atlantatrails site, which we've been recommending as long as we can remember. This is a fantastic resource with in-depth information on nearly all of Georgia's best hiking trails. After running the site for a few years, they decided to open up an outfitter shop and they truly nailed it! Trailful has been open for a few years now and it just continues to get better and better. If y'all need somewhere to grab a pack, sleeping bag, poles, boots or anything in between, these are the folks to talk to. Give them a shot, we bet you'll have a new favorite place on your list.

There is nothing more tempting for us than the lur There is nothing more tempting for us than the lure of unspoiled woods off the main trail. In our younger years, and especially when we were just getting into the outdoors, we were incredibly guilty of this. We would constantly veer off trail. Or cut our own path from one switchback to another. Or we would want to sneak around or under or on top of a waterfall beyond the viewing area that was provided to us. We were completely naive to the impacts these acts had but now that we know better, we want to make sure we share what we’ve learned. Going off trail, especially if enough people start to do it in the same spot, can cause massive problems. The first and biggest of which is erosion. When we go off trail and start blazing new paths, we create erosion issues that can last for generations. We have to keep in mind that the trails that are in place and have been cut where they are were chosen to minimize impact to the environment and the ecosystem. The most common place we see this in switchbacks. Switchbacks are the longer meandering S-shaped spots in the trail that help make getting up and down the steepest parts of a trail easier. However what a lot of people do when we see the next switch back is to “skip ahead”. So instead of staying on the slow gradual trail, they’ll go straight up or down and try to pick up the trail via a shortcut by cutting ahead. Going up and down like this in steep sections basically creates massive gullies when the rain comes and compounds erosion issues on the side of the mountain. Staying on the trail will not only make your hike easier and more enjoyable, but will prevent this type of long term damage that is hard to fix. Nature will usually heal these scars if given enough time and space, but she won’t be happy about it in the interim.

As school lets out and temperatures rise, we know As school lets out and temperatures rise, we know a lot of folks, like us, have the beach on their mind! If you're looking to make a trip down south this summer, you're spoiled for choice with great beaches all along Georgia's coast. Hands down, one of our favorites has to be Jekyll Island.

Jekyll is one of Georgia's barrier islands and offers miles of scenic coastline. The sandy beaches are great for a day out in the sun, but Jekyll's most famous beaches are a little different. Driftwood beach is a very unique area where the tides bring tons of driftwood onto the shores, creating some rather impressive natural sculptures. These driftwood formations are always unique and changing with the tide. We've visited several times and it always looks different from the last.

One of our favorite attributes about Jekyll is that it still feels very natural and even "wild" at times. With miles upon miles of biking paths that wind through the oak and palm forests, it's easy to get off the beaten path and find some hidden gems. Biking around the island has to be our favorite activity when we visit. It feels so great to arrive and park the car for the rest of the trip. Practically anything you need is accessible with a short pedal around.

On one of our recent visits, we stayed at the @jekyllclub and highly recommend it. The club grounds are full of historical sites dating back to the 1800s and it is fascinating to walk the grounds and learn about the island's history. The club also has several great restaurant choices and other great amenities.

If you're looking to keep things more low-key, Jekyll also has a great campground that is right around the corner from Driftwood Beach. We could go on about what a great trip we had, but we'd love for you to read our blog for the full itinerary. Check it out at the link in our bio and let us know if you've visited Jekyll and how your trip was!
