As the crisp autumn air settles in and the leaves begin their vibrant transformation, there’s no better way to celebrate the season than by immersing yourself in North Georgia fall festivals and farmers markets. One such market that has been a staple for us each year is Jaemor Farms. When Tim Echols planted his first peaches back in 1912, he likely had no idea what his small roadside stand would eventually blossom into.
Today, Jaemor Farms encompasses over 100 acres of farmland with a market located right off the side of Cornelia Highway/ GA 365. This location has served them well, with their “Market on the Hill” seeing over a million visitors annually. So what is everyone coming to see you ask? Well, it depends on what’s in season. Jaemor grows over a dozen varieties of produce right here in North Georgia, from sweet peaches to strawberries, pumpkins, beans, and much more, there’s a season for just about everyone. And if you find something in the market that wasn’t grown right there on the farm, you can rest assured that it was selected from a locally grown source and picked for its freshness.
If there is one thing Jaemor is known for, it would have to be those sweet Georgia Peaches. Being the peach state after all, you’d expect Georgia to be a great host for this delicious fruit. And a good host it is, with Jaemor growing over 30 different varieties of peaches, each with a unique flavor profile and intended use. Some peaches are perfect straight off the tree, while others are better suited to canning, baking, or freezing. Not a big peach person? You likely just haven’t had one in the right form yet! With Jaemor offering fresh peach jams, jellies, pies, and milkshakes, there are endless ways to try it out. We have a peach milkshake from the “Eatery” nearly every visit.
If peaches aren’t really your thing, or you’re just looking for a bit extra, Jaemor is the place to be. I’m not even sure I could guess how many varieties of fresh produce can be found in the market on a given day. On our most recent visit in early September, there were endless varieties of peaches and apples to choose from, some early mini pumpkins, many varieties of peppers and other veggies, buckets of blueberries, and so much more. As with any farm stand, what is available depends largely on the season in which you visit, but Jaemor is certain to have an abundance of fresh produce to choose from.
If you have finished browsing the market and worked up an appetite, we highly recommend walking down to The Eatery. Located just across the parking lot from the main market, The Eatery serves up fresh sandwiches, salads, BBQ, and some absolutely delicious milkshakes. There’s no set menu, so you’re likely to find something new each time you visit, but you can always count on it being a great choice.
This is what we love about visiting Jaemor Farms, even on a routine visit just to pick up some veggies, you’re sure to find so much more. Throughout the year Jaemor hosts a ton of fun events that offer you a chance to get involved in the farm. Some of our personal favorites include the U-Pick Tulips each Spring and the annual Harvest Celebration in the Fall.
We visited the farm during their U-Pick Tulip event for the first time this past Spring and highly recommend it if you’re looking for a fun way to pick up some fresh flowers. Once you arrive, the staff will point you in the right direction of the tulip field, where they will set you up with a reusable cup and a pair of clippers. Then it’s as easy as walking the rows of sprouting tulips to pick out your favorite varieties. We do highly recommend wearing boots for this as it can get a little muddy in the field between the Spring showers and morning dew. But it was an absolutely gorgeous morning when we visited and the entire time you’re walking through the field to pick out your flowers, you’re surrounded by the blossoming peach trees and long-range mountain views. Once you’ve picked the ones you’d like to take home, they will get you set up (price is determined by how many tulips you pick). This was a lovely way to spend an early spring morning and we would absolutely do it again.
Another fun event to look forward to each fall is Jaemor’s Harvest Celebration. This is along the lines of your favorite Fall festivals found all across North Georgia. If you’re a fan of corn mazes, pumpkin patches, hay rides, and all of the tasty treats your stomach can handle, it’s worth the visit. We’ve been to the corn maze several times over the past ten years or so, long before they added a lot of the other activities and it has always been a blast. It’s now even better though, especially for those of you looking for somewhere to let the kids have some fun. The corn maze is the center of attention, but there are so many farm-based activities that you will just have to visit their website for the full list. Our favorites were definitely the corn maze and the apple cannons though. Something about blasting an apple at a target out of an air cannon just screams Fall, right?
There are a multitude of reasons that we recommend you pay Jaemor Farms a visit, and we have barely scratched the surface of what they offer.
